The 6-Pin J1708 female connector is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring to the right place after plugging to a 6-Pin J1708 male receptacle assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.
The end of 6-Pin J1708 female and male plugs can be overmolded or not, according to your needs. If the ends are overmolded, the cables are more sturdy and durable. If not overmolded, the price can be lower because the raw material and labour cost is saved.

Application
The common application is to connect telematics, fleet management or trucking devices such as GPS Trackers to older 6 pin J1708 round diagnostic port in medium and heavy duty vehicles model years from the early-to-mid-2000s.
This Y Cable allows port relocation or connection of multiple devices. This Y cable is for older medium and heavy duty vehicles that have the J1708 6 pin diagnostic ports adjacent to the clutch pedal or in some other inconvenient location. It is also for vehicles that require multiple devices be connected to the J1708 6 pin diagnostic port. This cable allows the J1708 diagnostic port to be split, with one port going to the original location and the other OBD2 female plug going to a GPS tracker or another device which has a OBD2 male port.
