The 9-Pin J1939 female connector is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring to the right place after plugging to a 9-Pin J1939 male receptacle assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.
The ends of Deutsch 9-Pin J1939 female and male connectors can be overmolded or not, according to your needs. If the ends are overmolded, the cables are more sturdy and durable. If not overmolded, the price can be lower because the raw material and labour cost is saved.

The Deutsch 9 Pin J1939 female connector of this cable is Type 2, so its Pin F is with smaller diameter as Pin C and Pin J. Type 2 J1939 9-Pin female connectors can be inserted into Type 1 or Type 2 J1939 9-Pin male receptacles.
Pin assignment or pin out
In most cases, all 9 pins of the J1939 male and female connectors are wired, so there are 9 wires of 18AWG in both cables. If there is no need for all 9 pins to be connected, the price can be lower because the raw material and labor cost is lower.
